Redondo Beach permit search

The Redondo Beach Building & Safety Division handles building permits through iWorQ. Search by permit number or parcel address. Its FAQ puts first building review at up to 3–4 weeks for a complete submission, excluding other departments. The city permit handout says: “Most residential, commercial, and industrial construction work on private property, whether new, added, remodeled, or altered needs building plans and permits. Permits must be obtained prior to the start of any work.” Search building permits on iWorQ

Do I need a permit for a fence in Redondo Beach?

The current Redondo Beach amendment distinguishes wood fences from masonry and concrete fences. Its exemption item includes height limits and conditions for slopes or retained earth. Those conditions belong to the exemption itself: the height alone is not the complete published test. The quoted item below is § 9-1.02, [A] 105.2 item 2, in the code dated July 21, 2026.

Wood fences not exceeding 6 feet (1,829 mm) in height including concrete or masonry pilasters unless fence is built on slope and retains earth, and masonry and concrete fences that are not over 5 feet (1,524 mm) in height unless built on a slope or retaining earth.

do i need a permit for a shed in Redondo Beach

For a detached shed, Redondo Beach ties the exemption to more than floor area. The current item also addresses the adjacent grade, excludes electrical, mechanical and plumbing work, and keeps the zoning condition. Read those conditions together when comparing a proposed shed with the exception; a storage use by itself does not state the complete exception.

One-story detached accessory buildings used as tool and storage sheds, playhouses and similar uses, provided the floor area does not exceed 120 square feet (11 m2), when the surface of adjacent grade does not exceed one unit vertical in 10 units horizontal (10-percent slope); the building does not contain electrical, mechanical or plumbing work and the building conforms to the applicable zoning regulations of Title 10 Planning and Zoning of the Municipal Code.

Can a homeowner pull their own permit in Redondo Beach?

The construction-process entry in the Redondo Beach FAQ limits homeowner permit pulling for projects involving two or more units. That entry also sets a project-valuation restriction and cites RBMC 105.1. Read the current construction-process entry before deciding whether to submit as an owner; its restrictions are part of the published permit procedure.

What work does not need a permit in Redondo Beach?

This is the published pool item, rather than a statement about a different pool type.

The Redondo Beach FAQ measures first and second building reviews after a complete set of plans and documents is submitted. It does not turn those review ranges into a permit issuance date. Planning, Engineering, Fire and other required departmental reviews are outside the quoted ranges, so the scope of the review matters when using this timing information.

Upon the submittal of a complete set of plans and documents, dependent on the scope of work: The first review (PC1) up to 3-4 weeks. The second review (PC2) is up to 2-3 weeks. Note: Plan review timelines above, only apply to the building review and does not include Planning, Engineering, Fire, or other required departmental reviews. You will need to contact each division/department to request an accurate timeline for their departmental submittal reviews.

The same FAQ bases permit and plan-review charges on project valuation, construction type, project size and permanent equipment. It identifies possible additional charges from construction, planning, state, school-district and sanitation requirements. The schedule excerpt is a published government charge for the named permit item, rather than a construction bid or a combined project total.

Before you apply in Redondo Beach: checklist

Redondo Beach moved Planning and Building applications to the iWorQ Citizen Portal in March 2025. The current building page also places reroof, electrical, plumbing and mechanical over-the-counter permits online. Use the application portal for a submission and the public permit search for looking up a record; these are separately labelled links on the city page.

For a plan-review submission, the FAQ lists a signed and dated application and a complete plan set with the Planning stamp. It also lists structural calculations, registered and signed energy calculations, and a soils report where applicable. Keep the applicable supporting documents with the plan set when assembling the submission described by the FAQ.

Redondo Beach permit status

The Redondo Beach iWorQ public form includes Status in the results table alongside issued and final dates. Start with the Permit # option when using a permit number, or Parcel Address for an address lookup. An Old Permit Number option also appears in the same search menu; the form does not publish a separate date range for that field.

The city page identifies iWorQ as the system for plan submissions, reviews, payments, permit issuance and inspection requests. The public building-search link therefore serves a different starting task from the Citizen Portal application link. Both are provided here with the names used on the city page.
