Key facts

How do you search DBPR by name?

Use DBPR’s individual or organization name search for asbestos work. The DBPR search help explains: "You can perform a search either by the name of an Individual or an Organization/Establishment." Keep the person’s name and the business name separate when preparing your optional search.

Source: DBPR public-search instructions, read 6 November 2026.

For a number search, DBPR explains: "When searching by License Number, you can search by either the number part of the license number, or you can enter the entire license number, including the letters."

Source: DBPR public-search instructions, read 6 November 2026.

The asbestos FAQ adds: "The asbestos profession does not have a formal board." The profession’s agency page identifies the Asbestos Licensing Unit. Open the official public search and choose the search type you want to use.

Use DBPR’s name-search distinction in your written request on InstaBids, keeping the business and individual questions within your own optional research.

What work can asbestos contractors and consultants perform?

DBPR distinguishes asbestos removal from consulting work. Its asbestos FAQ says: "An asbestos contractor may remove, encapsulate or enclose asbestos-containing materials and dispose of asbestos-containing waste." Describe removal, encapsulation or enclosure explicitly when that is the work you want priced.

For consulting, DBPR says: "An asbestos consultant may conduct surveys for asbestos-containing materials; develop operation and maintenance plans; monitor and evaluate asbestos abatement; and prepare asbestos abatement specifications." A survey, an abatement specification and removal are different deliverables; name the deliverable in your request rather than using only the word asbestos.

Describe the DBPR contractor or consultant task in your request on InstaBids so bids address the survey, specification or removal you want.

Do asbestos businesses and individuals have separate records?

DBPR distinguishes the qualifying contractor or consultant from the asbestos business. Its asbestos FAQ states: "An asbestos business license authorizes a business to contract only within the scope of work of the qualifying consultant or contractor license." Ask which individual role and business name relate to the work you are describing.

For the asbestos business and its qualifying individual, read the status exactly as each record shows it.

Keep the asbestos business and qualifying consultant roles separate in your request on InstaBids, alongside the work contractors will bid to perform.

Which lead-work search applies in Florida?

For lead-paint work in Florida, open the federal EPA Lead-based Paint Professional Locator. Choose the work type before the location: the form separates renovation, repair and painting from lead-based paint abatement, inspection or risk assessment.

Source: Federal EPA lead-paint professional locator, read 6 November 2026.

EPA describes renovation, repair and painting this way: "Renovation, repair and painting (RRP) RRP (including most home contracting work) where paint is disturbed as a consequence of the activity, but is not undertaken to address lead issues."

Source: Federal EPA lead-paint professional locator, read 6 November 2026.

The federal locator distinguishes abatement: "Lead-based paint abatement Abatement is a specialized activity where the objective is to eliminate lead-based hazards in the home." Select the description that fits the purpose of your project, rather than treating paint disturbance and lead-hazard removal as the same search.

The Florida Department of Health explains: "Any renovation, repair, or painting project in a pre-1978 home or building can easily create dangerous lead dust."

Name renovation or abatement in your request on InstaBids, using EPA’s lead-paint locator categories to organize your own optional public-record research.

How do you file an asbestos complaint in Florida?

Use DBPR’s File a Complaint page and select the asbestos profession from the list. DBPR instructs: "To file a complaint against a profession or business, please select from the list below." Choose the asbestos category rather than the employee-complaint form.

Source: DBPR complaint filing, read 6 November 2026.

DBPR also explains the limits of that process: "The Department cannot represent you in civil matters to recover fees paid or seek remedies for injuries." A complaint to the department and a request for a financial remedy are different matters; use the department’s own guidance when choosing your next step.

Source: DBPR complaint filing, read 6 November 2026.

The Asbestos Licensing Unit’s disciplinary-orders page explains the separate final-order record: "When the discipline matter is concluded the Department issues a written final order containing findings of fact, conclusions of law, and the penalty that is imposed." Use that official discipline resource for your own research alongside the complaint filing page.

Keep the DBPR asbestos complaint path with your project notes, then describe any remaining work in a new request on InstaBids.
