How to check electrician license?

Use the Bureau of Construction Codes route for work in Michigan: Open the official licence search. The useful starting point is the type of credential you want to look up, rather than a search of unrelated professions. The form gives this instruction: "Enter information below to search for a Licensee in the Agency's database. Licensee information can be searched by entering any of the following information:" It then lists name, business name, licence type, licence number and city/state. Ask the business which credential it is presenting for the proposed job. Keep its own wording beside your written scope so you can choose the corresponding category. Do not paste a person's details into your job description. Run the public lookup yourself, and retain the agency link with your project notes.

How to check electrician license online?

For a business search in Michigan, the public form offers "Electrical Contractor" as a licence-type choice. Select that category when the credential supplied is a contractor licence, then enter the business name or number in the matching field and use Search. Keep the contractor renewal timetable separate from the timetable for an individual master. In its Electrical/Fire Alarm/Sign Specialty Contractor instructions, LARA says: "You must renew every three (3) years by 12/31. You can start renewing your license 90 days prior to the expiration date." This is a regulatory renewal period, rather than a promise about when a particular job can start. Read the agency's status wording exactly as it appears when you search. A name match alone is not an answer about the work described in your bid. Compare the credential supplied by the business with the scope you intend to hire for; ask the bureau about any mismatch before deciding how to proceed.

How to look up journeyman electrician license?

The Michigan form uses the category "Electrical Journey". Use that choice for a journey credential rather than the contractor choice. This distinction lets you ask the person offering the work which credential is being presented instead of treating all electrician categories as interchangeable. Does an electrician need a contractors license?

LARA distinguishes the contractor credential from the individual master credential: "Electrical Contractor licenses require an associated Master Electrician license." Ask which contractor credential is being offered for your Michigan job, then use the contractor search category rather than stopping after an individual search. The association has its own limit. LARA says: "A Master Electrician can only associate with one Electrical Contractor at a time." For the wiring requirement and its express cross-reference, the Legislature publishes this text in section 339.5731(1): "(1) Except as otherwise provided in section 737, only an individual who is licensed under this article shall install electrical wiring. In a municipality where inspection service is provided, a person shall obtain a permit from the board or municipality that has jurisdiction." How to look up electrician license number?

If the supplied credential is local to Detroit, first account for LARA's own direction: "If you live in the City of Detroit, they issue their own licenses and registrations locally. Please reach out to them directly." A blank state search should prompt a question about the issuing authority, not a verdict about the business. For an out-of-state credential, LARA says: "Michigan does not hold reciprocity with any other state/country."
