How do you check a handyman license in Nevada?

The Nevada State Contractors Board says it has no separate handyman license. Its FAQ says small repair or upkeep jobs under a set cost limit need no contractor's license, with exceptions. For other work, you can look a contractor up on the board's License Search, by number or company name, as an optional public-record step.

  1. Ask for one written price for the whole job, labor and materials together.
  2. Ask whether the job needs a building permit; if you are unsure, ask your city or county building department.
  3. Ask whether any part of the job is plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, heating or air-conditioning work.
  4. Ask whether the job is part of a larger project at your home.
  5. If you are given a license number, run the License Search by number; if you only have a business name, search by company name.
  6. Keep the written price and a note of each search you ran.
