How do I connect InstaBids to ChatGPT or Claude?

Connect InstaBids in 3 steps: add https://instabids.ai/api/agent/mcp as a custom connector in ChatGPT, Claude or any assistant that supports remote MCP connectors, sign in with your InstaBids homeowner account, then approve what it may do. Your AI can then start a job, answer the questions, check its status and read the bids; only you send it to contractors.

The 3 steps

  1. Add the connector. In your AI assistant, add a custom connector and paste the InstaBids connector URL: https://instabids.ai/api/agent/mcp. The steps for ChatGPT and Claude are below.
  2. Sign in to InstaBids. Your assistant opens an InstaBids sign-in page. Sign in with your InstaBids homeowner account. Nothing works without signing in.
  3. Approve what it may do. InstaBids shows the permissions your assistant asks for, such as "See your jobs and read your bids" and "Start and update job requests for you". Make sure both are ticked if you want your AI to start a job for you, then choose Approve.

How do I add InstaBids to ChatGPT?

  1. On the web, open ChatGPT Plugins (chatgpt.com/plugins), select the plus button, then Add custom MCP server.
  2. Name it InstaBids. Under Connection, paste https://instabids.ai/api/agent/mcp.
  3. For authentication, choose OAuth. Review the warning and select I understand and want to continue, then Create as a plugin.
  4. Install the plugin, then sign in to InstaBids and choose Approve when ChatGPT asks.

OpenAI says account and workspace policies apply to adding and using custom MCP servers, and by default ChatGPT asks you to confirm actions that change something, such as starting a job. If you do not see Add custom MCP server, your plan or workspace may not allow it; OpenAI's pages have the current rules.

How do I add InstaBids to Claude?

  1. In Claude (claude.ai or Claude Desktop), go to Customize, then Connectors.
  2. Click + Add, then Add custom connector.
  3. Name it InstaBids, paste https://instabids.ai/api/agent/mcp and click Continue. Review the sign-in settings Claude finds, click Continue, then Add.
  4. Sign in to InstaBids and choose Approve when Claude asks.

Anthropic says custom connectors work on every Claude plan, including Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise; its page lists any limit for your plan.

On Team and Enterprise plans an Owner adds it first (Organization settings, Connectors, Add, Custom, Web); members then find it under Customize, Connectors and click Connect.

Can I use another AI assistant?

Yes, if it supports remote MCP connectors with sign-in: add the same connector URL and follow its own steps. Steps for more assistants are on the Add InstaBids to your AI assistant page.

What can my AI do once it is connected?

Can my AI send my job to contractors?

No. Only you send the job to contractors: your AI can get it ready, and you send it by signing in to InstaBids. Only you pick a contractor, and your AI cannot pay anyone.
