Will the Nevada board recover money you paid?

The Board's complaint form says the Board is not a substitute for the courts, and that if your primary interest is to obtain restitution, you should seek advice from an attorney. A separate statute sets a filing window for the Board's recovery account; the words of each are quoted below.

How should you put your complaint packet together?

Build the packet so an investigator can follow the job from the contract to each problem without asking you for more. This is practical reasoning, not legal advice and not a finding from any agency.

  1. Download the form from the Board's Contractor Complaints page on the day you file, so you work from its current version, and fill in every box you can.
  2. Write your complaint description as a numbered list, one problem per line, saying where it is in the house and when you first saw it.
  3. Put copies of the contract, change orders, invoices and every payment record in date order, and keep the originals at home.
  4. Add copies of texts, emails and letters between you and the contractor, plus your own dated notes of calls and visits.
  5. Take dated photos of each problem and label each photo with its number from your list.
  6. Write down the dates the work started, stopped and when each problem appeared, and compare them with the time limits quoted above.
  7. Keep a full copy of what you send and a record of the day you sent it.
  8. If getting money back is your goal, talk to a lawyer or your local small claims court as well as filing with the Board.
