Boise City permit status

The Building form includes a Record Status selector. Its guidance lists Received, Issued, In Review, Fee Review, Issued Revision Pending and Final among common building statuses. The portal notes that its full status list spans multiple city departments.

If you have the record number, the city FAQ directs you to the search field in the upper right of the site. Open the matching record, select Documents and look for the document named PDS-Permit to retrieve a permit copy.

Boise City permit application

Homeowners can use the city system for plumbing, electrical and mechanical permits, as well as fence, roof, window and siding permits. The homeowner guide directs users to set up an account and use the wizard to select the appropriate permit.

The same guide describes online application, inspection scheduling and permit payment through that system. Its list distinguishes trade permits from roof, window, siding and fence work, so choose the application that describes the work you intend to perform.

Installing or replacing a water heater appears under Plumbing Permits in the city homeowner guide. The city places that work alongside piping changes and new plumbing fixtures, rather than in its interior-finish exemption.

For heating and cooling systems, the same guide lists installation or changes to the system under Mechanical Permits. The permit category therefore follows the kind of work described in the guide.

For a wooden deck or concrete patio, the city rule uses height above grade. A deck or patio more than 12 inches above grade needs a building permit under the homeowner guide.

Can a homeowner pull their own permit in Boise City?

The homeowner guide permits homeowners to work on their primary residence without state contractor registration. If acting as the subcontractor, the homeowner must obtain the permit and personally do that work.

When another person performs electrical, plumbing or mechanical work, the guide requires that person to hold the state trade credentials it describes. The primary-residence statement and the self-performance condition appear together in the city guidance.

What work does not need a permit in Boise City?

The city separates interior finish work from changes that expose framing, add partitions or relocate plumbing fixtures. Painting, floor covering, cabinets, countertops and wall coverings appear in its exemption sentence; the next sentence identifies work that needs a permit.

The building code exempts interior work such as painting, floor covering, cabinets, counter tops and wall coverings from permit requirements. A permit is required if the project removes wall coverings to expose the framing; builds a wall or partition (whether bearing or non-bearing) or relocates sinks, tubs, showers or water closets which require plumbing.

Sheds have a different rule: a floodplain location requires a permit. Outside that condition, the guide states a building-permit exemption for a structure of 200 square feet or less, with Planning setback confirmation for structures over 120 and under 200 square feet.

If located in a flood plain a permit IS required. A building permit is not required as long as the structure is 200 sq. ft. or less. If the structure is over 120 sq. ft. (and less than 200 sq. ft.), you need to confirm your property setbacks with the Planning division.
