Who is the owner of the license?
The LSLBC FAQ assigns the license to its holder: a corporation, partnership, limited liability company or individual, as applicable. Ownership stays separate from the qualifying party’s status, so the worker holding exam scores is a different subject from the entity holding the license.

LSLBC explains: “The license belongs to the licensee, as: a corporate license belongs to the corporation; a partnership license belongs to the partnership; a limited liability company license belongs to the limited liability company, etc.; and an individual license belongs to the individual, regardless of the status of the qualifying party of the entity.”

Your optional reading of LSLBC’s license-ownership explanation can help distinguish the contracting entity in your notes before preparing an InstaBids written request.
What is a Qualifying Party?
The LSLBC FAQ explains: “A qualifying party is the person who holds the exam scores, and is not the owner of the license unless he/she is a sole proprietor.”

LSLBC’s distinction between exam scores and license ownership gives you a specific topic to consider when outlining your electrical request on InstaBids.
Can a contractor use a DBA name in Louisiana?
The LSLBC FAQ says: “LSLBC does not recognize DBA’s, Assumed Names or Fictitious Names as legal business entities and it will not appear on official records, including the license.”

Does a local occupational license replace Louisiana’s contractor license?
The LSLBC FAQ distinguishes a local business document from a contractor license: “An occupational license is NOT a contractor’s license.” The agency describes the occupational document as authority to operate a business within that city or parish.
Source: LSLBC FAQ: search, ownership and business documents, read 22 October 2026.
The complete LSLBC explanation reads: “An occupational license is NOT a contractor’s license. An occupational license only gives you or your company the authority to operate a business in that city/parish and it’s generally for local sales tax purposes.”

Under Commercial, the LSLBC Types of Licenses page lists: “Electrical/Mechanical/Plumbing projects exceeding $10,000 including labor and materials.”
