What to know before getting fence quotes in Broward County

Describe the job once with photos; every contractor who bids prices the same written scope, so you compare like with like instead of phoning five companies.

Why get more than one fence quote?

Typically, fence quotes for the same yard differ because each company prices a different fence: another height, post spacing, gate count or material grade. Three quotes on one written scope show you which difference is the price and which is the plan, which three separate phone calls rarely do.

How does bidding from photos and a scope card work?

Contractors who take part price your photos and written scope card, so nobody visits before you see any prices. Homeowners pay InstaBids nothing. Contact details stay hidden until the homeowner picks a contractor and they confirm the connection. The contractor you pick may visit once before settling the final price against the percentage the bid stated.

What photos should I take for a fence job?

Photograph the fence line from each corner, any old fence that has to come out, every spot where a gate goes, and anything in the way such as trees, slopes or a pool. A copy of your property survey helps most, because it shows the lot lines a bidder must build to.

Does a new fence need a permit in Broward County?

Yes, the Broward County Board of Rules and Appeals amendments, which every Broward building office enforces, require a permit to install, alter or repair any fence, and the fence gets a final inspection. Height and material limits come from each city's own zoning code, so they differ town by town below.

Does a pool fence need extra checks in Broward?

Yes, a fence that serves as a pool barrier is checked when the pool gets its final inspection: Broward County's rules list the "Child safety barrier - Florida Statute 515" among the checks made before a pool is filled. Many towns above also want the barrier drawn on the fence plans, with self-closing, self-latching gates.

How do I check a fence contractor's license in Broward?

Ask for the license number, then search it on Broward County's contractor license search at dpepp.broward.org, by contractor name, CC number or firm name; no account is needed. A state-certified contractor appears on the DBPR search instead, because Chapter 9 of the county code exempts them from the county card. The county's contractor line is 954-765-4400.

Is Broward County in the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone?

Yes, section 202 of the Florida Building Code names Broward and Miami-Dade as the whole High-Velocity Hurricane Zone. For fences it shows up in the build rules: unincorporated Broward's fence procedures follow code section 2328 for wood and table 2224 for chain link, and other materials need an engineer's design or a product approval.

What makes one fence quote higher than another?

Typically, the plan differs more than the price: a taller or longer fence, a different material, more or wider gates, removal of the old fence, or the permit and survey. Ask each bidder to say which of those their estimate includes, so the lowest number is not simply the smallest job.

Who sees my details?

Nobody before the connection is confirmed: bidders see your scope card, your photos and your 5-digit ZIP code. Contact details stay hidden until the homeowner picks a contractor and they confirm the connection, and then you can talk directly.
