Is there a heat pump rebate?

One state example is Efficiency Maine’s residential heat-pump program. Its comparison of rebate-eligible equipment says:

“In general, rebate-eligible units are capable of producing heat at colder temperatures and are more energy efficient.”

The FAQ describes colder-temperature output and energy efficiency as the differences between rebate-eligible and ineligible equipment. It does not state a household rebate amount in that answer; the program’s application instructions govern that separate question.

InstaBids lets you describe a heat pump replacement for written bids.

Mini split rebate?

Efficiency Maine distinguishes single-zone and multi-zone equipment in its residential heat-pump rebate program:

“In our rebate program for residential heat pumps, the heating capacity of both single-zone and multi-zone heat pumps can be counted in the sizing, but the cost of multi-zone heat pumps is not rebatable.”

The distinction is between capacity counted for sizing and equipment expense receiving a rebate. Counting the multi-zone system toward heating capacity does not change the exclusion of its equipment cost.

Include the mini split zone layout in your InstaBids job description.

Tax credit on heat pump?

For the ended federal credit, ENERGY STAR describes the equipment requirement that applied to air-source heat pumps:

“Starting January 1, 2025, air source heat pumps that are recognized as ENERGY STAR Most Efficient are eligible for this credit.”

“This tax credit is effective for products purchased and installed between January 1, 2023, and December 31, 2025.”

Mini split tax credit 2025?

ENERGY STAR’s federal-credit page includes ductless systems in its equipment listing. This is a prior-year rule, with the installation period shown below:

“Your contractor can use ENERGY STAR’s listing of eligible heat pumps, which includes both central heat pumps and ductless heat pumps, to determine whether the products you are considering meet the tax credit requirements.”

“This tax credit is effective for products purchased and installed between January 1, 2023, and December 31, 2025.”

The listing is the equipment lookup for the earlier federal credit, rather than a state application form. Its express inclusion of ductless heat pumps is the relevant point for a mini-split project.

Describe your ductless heat pump installation on InstaBids to compare written scopes.

Heat pump installation rebates?

Efficiency Maine explains when a furnace or boiler may be used after receiving its residential heat-pump rebate:

“The intention of our residential heat pump rebate program is to encourage homeowners to use heat pumps whenever possible.”

The same answer describes exceptions for an outage when the generator can run the furnace or boiler but not the heat pumps, and for a heat pump being serviced. These are the program’s examples of occasions for using the existing system after receiving its rebate.

List the existing furnace or boiler in your InstaBids heat pump request.

Can I get a rebate for air-to-water heat pumps?

Efficiency Maine’s residential heat-pump FAQ states a specific equipment exclusion; this example applies to its own program:

“Air-to-water heat pumps can work well for customers with radiant heating, but are not commonly used in Maine and are not currently eligible for Efficiency Maine rebates.”

That exclusion concerns the air-to-water design used with radiant heating. It is separate from the air-source equipment discussed in the federal credit answer. A general reference to a heat pump does not resolve this program’s equipment restriction.

Specify air-to-water equipment in your InstaBids request so the written scope names it.
