Energy efficient windows tax credit?
It ended: the IRS form instructions say no energy efficient home improvement credit for property placed in service after December 31, 2025, and they cap windows and skylights together at $600.
The IRS form asked for the QMID and the amount paid for the four most expensive qualifying exterior windows and skylights.
That line covers the 2025 return only, for windows put in by the end of 2025.
Source: Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Instructions for Form 5695, read .
To get written bids that name each window's energy rating, you can post the window job on InstaBids.
Window replacement tax credit?
Not for replacement windows put in now. For a 2025 install the IRS form asks for two things about each window:
“For exterior doors, windows, and skylights installed in 2025, a valid QMID must be reported on the applicable line(s).”
The IRS let a taxpayer rely on the maker’s written certification that a window is an eligible building envelope component.
For windows replaced today, the money on this page comes from utilities and states, not the IRS.

To compare written bids on replacement windows, you can describe the job once on InstaBids and contractors bid in writing.
New window energy tax credit?
No federal credit is open for new windows; in Wisconsin, the utilities’ Focus on Energy program pays a per-window rebate instead, on materials and by household income.
Eligible customers can save up to $600 per window with Focus on Energy rebates through a participating Trade Ally contractor, on windows purchased and installed June 1 to December 15, 2026, while rebate funds are available.
“At least 51% of the home’s heating must come from a participating utility (electric or natural gas).”

For new windows on an addition or a remodel, you can post the window job on InstaBids and read each written bid.
Window replacement rebates?
Salt River Project, an Arizona utility, pays $3 per square foot for ENERGY STAR replacement windows that meet its ratings, for homes it has served for more than a year.
“Replace your home’s existing windows with new ENERGY STAR rated windows that meet minimum efficiency ratings with a U-factor of less than or equal to .32 and a Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) of less than or equal to .23.”
“Replacement window installations before Jan. 1, 2024, do not qualify for the rebate.”
“New construction homes do not qualify for the rebate.”

To get written bids that list each window's ENERGY STAR rating and area, you can post the window job on InstaBids.
Impact windows rebate?
Florida’s My Safe Florida Home grant counts impact windows as opening protection, and its page said it was taking applications when we read it on October 17, 2026.
“Improvement 1.0 – Opening Protection: Impact-resistant windows, doors, garage doors, and skylights to protect against flying debris.”
South Carolina’s Safe Home grant also pays for impact-rated windows, but it was not taking applications on the same date. SC Safe Home on the roof replacement grants page

Impact windows tax credit?
The IRS window credit required Energy Star Most Efficient windows and has ended. The Florida grant is a match set in state law:
“All grants must be matched on the basis of $1 provided by the applicant for $2 provided by the state up to a maximum state contribution of $10,000 toward the actual cost of the mitigation project, except as provided in paragraph (h).”
“The department may require that improvements be made to all openings, including exterior doors, garage doors, windows, and skylights, as a condition of reimbursing an applicant approved for a grant.”

For impact window work, you can describe the openings once on InstaBids and contractors send written bids on that scope.
Rebate, tax credit, grant or weatherization: how they differ
Utility rebate: SRP in Arizona offers a rebate of $3 per square foot and Focus on Energy in Wisconsin offers up to $600 per window, each under its own rules and while its program runs.
Grant: Florida’s My Safe Florida Home pays toward impact-resistant windows as opening protection. My Safe Florida Home on the roof replacement grants page
Loan: Minnesota Housing lists windows under Energy Loan Plus.
“Loan amounts from $2,000 to $30,000 with both secured and unsecured loan options”
Weatherization: California’s program lists repairing or replacing windows, while Washington’s says this:
“Please note: Weatherization is not a window replacement program.”
Home Energy Rebates: DOE’s HOMES list names no windows, and South Carolina’s HOMES page, not yet open, does list them.
Before you apply
- “You must also provide the Certified Product Directory number (CPD#) as found in the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) directory.”
- “Prior to purchasing and installing windows, the Trade Ally contractor must complete and submit a reservation form to reserve funds.”
- “REBATE MUST BE SUBMITTED WITHIN 6 MONTHS OF INSTALLATION.”
- “Replace existing single-pane or clear double-pane windows (no Low-E coating) with ENERGY STAR Version 7 Northern Climate Certified models.”
- “Proof of Homeownership, or landlord authorization if renting”
- For a window put in during 2025, the IRS form asks for each window’s four-character QMID from the maker.
