VA bathroom remodel grant?

VA’s Home Improvements and Structural Alterations (HISA) benefit is a lifetime amount of $6,800 for a service-connected disability and some other cases VA lists, or $2,000 for any other disability, for medically necessary changes to the primary residence.

“Allowing accessibility to kitchen or bathroom sinks or counters (e.g. lowering counters/sinks)”

HISA does not pay for a spa, hot tub or Jacuzzi.

For Veterans with the service-connected disabilities VA lists for it, VA’s Special Home Adaptation grant pays up to $25,350 for FY 2026 toward buying, building or changing a permanent home.

Sources: U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Service (HISA), read ; U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, disability housing grants (SAH, SHA), read .

For accessibility changes like a wider doorway or a roll-in shower, you can post the bathroom job on InstaBids for written bids.

Bathroom remodel grant?

USDA’s Section 504 grant, for homeowners aged 62 or older with very low income, can pay to remodel a home for a household member with a disability; USDA’s rule at section 3550.102 says:

“Grant funds may be used only to pay costs for repairs and improvements that will remove identified health and safety hazards or to repair or remodel dwellings to make them accessible and useable for household members with disabilities.”

“Maximum grant is $10,000”

Virginia’s EHARP pays up to $4,000 through local providers for repairs that include accessibility modifications.

Sources: U.S. Department of Agriculture, Rural Development (Section 504), read ; eCFR, 7 CFR part 3550 subpart C, read ; Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development, EHARP, read .

Once you know which grant pays for the remodel, you can describe the bathroom job once on InstaBids and contractors bid in writing.

Senior bathroom remodel grants near me?

Senior repair grants on these pages are reached through a local office or agency. USDA takes Section 504 applications this way:

“Applications for this program are accepted through your local RD office year round”

Pennsylvania’s Whole-Home Repairs page, read October 17, 2026, gave no application status; it named county agencies as the way to apply and capped a homeowner grant at $50,000 per owner-occupied unit.

“If you are an individual or household, find the Whole-Home Repairs Program Agency that serves your county.”

In Illinois, IHDA’s Home Repair and Accessibility Program works through local grantees:

“In most cases grantees, will have substantial waitlists”

Sources: U.S. Department of Agriculture, Rural Development (Section 504), read ; Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, Whole-Home Repairs Program, read ; Illinois Housing Development Authority, home repair programs, read .

An older homeowner, or a family member helping, can post the senior bathroom job on InstaBids to see written bids side by side.

Bathroom remodel rebate?

The agency pages read for this page offer grants and loans for bathroom work, not rebates. Minnesota Housing’s Fix Up loan lists this among its eligible projects:

“Bathroom or kitchen remodels”

“Loan amounts from $2,000 to $75,000”

“No income limits for the Accessibility loan program”

Minnesota Housing’s Emergency & Accessibility Loan Program covers accessibility needs for a household resident with a disability.

Source: Minnesota Housing, Improve Your Home, read .

Since these programs are grants and loans rather than rebates, the bathroom job itself can go on InstaBids for written bids.

Bathroom remodel relief incentive?

None of the agency pages read for this page names a program called bathroom remodel relief incentive. The named VA grant for bigger home changes is Specially Adapted Housing, which pays up to $126,526 for FY 2026 for Veterans with the service-connected disabilities VA lists.

“If you’re eligible for an SAH or SHA grant, you can use money from your grant up to 6 different times over your lifetime.”

“Depending on the adaptations you need, and the bid from your builder, you can use as much or as little of your grant as you need this year.”

In Texas, TDHCA’s Amy Young Barrier Removal Program offers one-time grants of up to $22,500 for households with persons with disabilities, through local providers.

Sources: U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, disability housing grants (SAH, SHA), read ; Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs, AYBR, read .

Whatever the program is called, you can post the bathroom remodel scope on InstaBids and read each contractor's written bid.

Rebate, tax credit, grant or weatherization: how they differ

Grant: USDA’s Section 504 grant goes to homeowners aged 62 or older with very low income, and its federal rule allows it for this work:

“Grant funds may be used only to pay costs for repairs and improvements that will remove identified health and safety hazards or to repair or remodel dwellings to make them accessible and useable for household members with disabilities.”

Loan: the same USDA program also lends, with these terms on rd.usda.gov:

“Maximum loan is $40,000”

“Loan interest rate is fixed at 1%”

“Loans are termed for 20 years”

VA benefit: HISA is a lifetime amount for medically necessary changes, and VA’s rule for it is:

“Note: All HISA projects must be medically justified for the service connected disability and/or non-service connected disability.”
