Electrical panel upgrade rebates?
Wisconsin’s HEAR, which Focus on Energy listed as now available when read on October 17, 2026, names panels among its qualified improvements:
“Additional qualified improvements include insulation, air sealing, upgraded electrical panels and wiring, and laundry and kitchen appliances.”
Focus on Energy adds that eligibility and rebate amounts depend on household income, for households at or under 150% of area median income.

When a state program names panel work, you can post the electrical panel job on InstaBids and compare written electrician bids.
Electric panel upgrade tax credit 2026?
No. A panel put in during 2026 falls after the IRS end date, and the IRS instructions for the credit form tied the panel credit to the equipment it served, both put in during 2025:
“To qualify for the credit, an improvement to or replacement of panelboards, subpanelboards, branch circuits, or feeders (enabling property) must be installed to enable the installation and use of a separate qualified energy efficient improvement or certain qualified energy property (enabled property) and both the enabling property and the enabled property must be installed in 2025.”

With the 2026 credit gone for new panels, you can still post the panel replacement on InstaBids for written bids.
Panel upgrade rebate?
Some utilities run their own. SMUD, the Sacramento utility, lists Go Electric rebates of up to $4,000 for a smart panel, subpanel or new circuit, and its subpanel and circuit rebates need a gas-to-electric conversion.
“*Gas-to-electric conversion required to qualify for subpanel and circuit rebates.”
“Choose a participating contractor from the SMUD Contractor Network.”

To get written bids that list the panel size and parts, you can post the panel upgrade on InstaBids.
Panel upgrade tax credit?
Only for work through 2025. The IRS page for the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit set the panel rule and its cap like this:
“Costs of electrical components needed to support residential energy property, including panelboards, sub-panelboards, branch circuits, and feeders, also qualify for the credit if they meet the National Electric Code and have a capacity of 200 amps or more. There is a limit of $600 per item.”

To compare written bids on a panelboard or subpanel install, you can post the electrical job on InstaBids.
Federal tax credit for electrical panel upgrade?
It ended for new work after December 31, 2025. The IRS instructions for the credit form cap panelboards, subpanelboards, branch circuits and feeders at $600 and give this rule for the line where the amount goes:
“Enter the amounts you paid for improvements to or replacement of panelboards, subpanelboards, branch circuits, or feeders that were installed in a manner consistent with the National Electric Code, have a load capacity of at least 200 amps, and were installed with qualified energy efficiency improvements or qualified energy property.”

For a panel upgrade ahead of a heat pump or EV charger, you can describe the job once on InstaBids for written bids.
Residential electrical panel upgrade grant program?
State rebate programs are the ones that name home panels. Wisconsin’s HEAR lists upgraded electrical panels and wiring for households at or under 150% of area median income, and Florida’s HEEHR table caps its Electric Load Service Center line at $4,000.
“Energy Saver North Carolina helps income-eligible homeowners and renters cover the cost of energy efficiency and electrification upgrades, such as heat pumps, electrical panels and insulation.”
“If you are interested in participating, please register and complete the information in your Profile section. We will send you an email when the application is open.”
Kentucky’s program lists panel and wiring upgrades but was not taking applications yet when read, and Colorado’s HEAR single-family program is closed.
Texas lists breaker panel box replacement among the possible HEAR measures; its FAQ, read October 23, 2026, says:
“A launch date has not been set and will depend on DOE approval of the final program design.”

To line up written electrician bids for a home panel that a state program names, you can post the job on InstaBids.
Rebate, tax credit, grant or weatherization: how they differ
Rebate: South Carolina’s plan pays its rebate to the contractor, who passes it on to the household:
“In these cases, rebates are issued to the contractor and passed on as an upfront discount to the customer.”
Tax credit: the IRS credit that covered panelboards ended after December 31, 2025, as the IRS section above quotes.
Grant: Maryland’s Healthy Homes Production Grant Program lists this among its repairs:
“Electrical hazard, Knob, and tube removal, inclusive of necessary service upgrades. Electrical upgrades for future home electrification.”
Utility rebate: SMUD ties its subpanel and circuit rebates to a switch from gas to electric.
Before you apply
- “First, the rebates programs must be officially launched. Then, applicants must submit an application to participate in the rebate program. The Implementer must approve the application.”
- “Texas is unable to accept receipts for rebate reimbursement.”
- “Your contractor will provide the rebate application for your signature and submit the rebate for you.”
- “As an 80%-150% AMI applicant, you would be required to submit any project costs exceeding the HEEHR rebate (known as "Cost-share") before a HEEHR project could begin.”
- Wisconsin lets a household join one of its two home energy rebate programs at a time; the home energy rebate program page quotes that rule. the home energy rebate program page
